Hectic
Last week was very busy and over the weekend my wife held me hostage and made me clean, rearrange furniture, organize, sort, do yardwork, etc. Also had Science Projects to finish the last two days with the kids, so now its on to catching up on my own school work!! I got some great books on Homesteading and Companion Planting, some more seeds that I wanted (which is crazy, since I really have no...

occupyonline:   Little did Willie Nelson know when he recorded “Crazy” years ago just how crazy it would become for our cherished family farmers in America. Nelson, President of Farm Aid, has recently called for the national Occupy movement to declare an “Occupy the Food System” action. Nelson states, “Corporate control of our food system has led to the loss of millions of family farmers,...

Ex-Mother-in-Law
Bought me and my wife two tulips for Valentines Day, already grown and needing to be transplanted. I have no idea what the hell to do with Tulips. In two years, I’ve only read/looked up about edible stuff…………now I gotta figure out where to plant these amongst the garden plants and have found zilch in the way of ‘companion planting’ for them. Anyone have a...

Like a Proud Papa!!!
My first seed that I saved from last year sprouted this morning. One of my Red Chile Peppers that I have in the rack-o-plant starts, and I have to admit it was very exciting to see!! I have some cilantro and cayenne seeds I saved also in some dirt (as well as a few more red chile), so I hope I have more a-comin’.

“…A coalition of environmentalists, conservative property rights activists and landowners are mounting a full court press against TransCanada in an attempt to derail the oil company’s attempts to build the controversial Keystone XL pipeline in Texas. On Monday, they won a small victory when a Lamar County judge issued a temporary restraining order against the company’s plans to do construction...

]]> funwithplantingplans replied to your photo: A Back to the Roots oyster growing kit we got at… Good luck! I bought that kit a bit ago and only got a few mushrooms out of it. Then they just started shriveling up when they were teeny. I didn’t change the misting or anything. Hmmm ah well, hope you have better results! Thanks!! I have a slight bit of skepticism on how the results will...

Songwriters Against Monsanto
meadowslark: I have no idea who Michael Hurley is but I love his project. He’s inviting songwriters to submit anti-Monsanto songs. If you are a musician, or know one, think about it. BTW, the graphic was borrowed from an article at Climate-connections.org, which, if you harbor Suspicions about Monsanto, will only feed your fears.

So far, I have swiss chard, rapini and some parsley sprouting in starts, and today the first scottish blue curled kale sprouted. Yay!! Also have a second round of long scarlet radishes and about 7 more garlic coming up. Sitting here planning what the next round of plant starts will be. For the record, I was using a less than 2 month old pan and the problems appear to be with Pyrex made after...
