I am officially part of an urban myth…
…and I can tell you definitively that yes, Pyrex pans can explode in the oven.
2 fucking hours of work cleaning hundreds of glass shards, pasta, and cheese out of the oven last night and the damned oven still isn’t clean and I am still finding tiny bits of glass in it.
For the record, I was using a less than 2 month old pan and the problems appear to be with Pyrex made after 1989 when the company was sold and the new owner decided to cheap out and use a different formulation for the glass. The company is fond of claiming that 100% of exploding glassware issues are the cook’s fault, but I sincerely doubt it. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/homeowners/pyrex.html
What the hell?? This terrifies me because I love baking with my Pyrex. Sorry this happened to you!!
